Sohipotome FAQ's...

Ever since planning has began and word begins to spread the following questions keep popping up. Read on for some of the more common questions being asked about 2010's event.

Q: Why has the name of the event changed from Women Of Hip Hop to Sohipotome?
A: The name of the event has been changed from Women Of Hip Hop to Sohipotome to better reflect the premise of the event. Sohipotome stands for “Soul and hip hop out of me.” For 2009's event two male rappers and one soul singer performed.
These types of artists should not feel excluded in participating based on the name of the event.

Q. How long have the events been taking place?
A. The Women In Hip Hop radio special has aired in March on WXYC 89.3 FM Chapel Hill, NC for the past 4 years.
This will be the second year for the concert and honors event
This will be the first year the event is called Sohipotome

Q. Why is the event taking place in March?
A. March is Women’s History Month.

Q. What is the Sohipotome honors and concert?

A. The Sohipotome Honors & Concert presents performances by female hip hop artists. We will be honoring women business owners whose work positively impacts the music industry and community.

Q. What is the Sohipotome radio special?
A. The Sohipotome radio special will showcase female hip hop artists and their music exclusively. There will be interviews with several artists in addition to women whose businesses impact hip hop and the music industry.

Q. What is the benefit of advertising with Sohipotome 2010?
A. Advertising with Sohipotome 2010 allows your business to reach a diverse audience. In 2009 hip hop artists and businesswomen from several states and Canada attended the event including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Detroit and Toronto.
The average age of attendees was 25 years old and digital music consumers. They posses basic to moderate technology skills. This also includes attendees from various cultural and educational backgrounds ranging from high school to graduate school. Their salary ranges from lower to middle upper class incomes.
