2010 SOHIPOTOME Women In Hip Hop Honoree...

SOHIPOTOME Women In Hip Hop is pleased to announce the second Honoree for 2010. We acknowledge the importance of recognizing up and coming individuals who are making an impact in the industry.

Lanisha Renee is the C.E.O. LR Consulting Enterprises, LLC, Executive Director P.I.T.C. and host/producer of Spotlight TV. She began her career in the entertainment industry as a full-time life style model 7 years ago. In between that time she obtained a BA in Business Management and is currently pursuing an MBA in Business and Public Relations, co-hosted (2) online internet radio shows and hosted/produced (2) radio shows of her own (Waking up w/Ms Rene & Spotlight Radio/TV on Collabo Muzik Radio and Mixshow Blast.

Lanisha is the former Operations Manager for Makin' It Magazine and RASHA Entertainment. When asked about the difficulties of owning your own business, Lanisha stated it can be difficult to maintain without a sense of direction, but she has also learned that creating and maintaining great - productive business relationships will keep any one's business growing and thriving.

Artists: Submit Your Tracks For The Radio Special...

Calling all female rappers! Now is the time to submit your tracks for the 2010 SOHIPOTOME Women In Hip Hop Radio Special. 2010 marks the 5th year of the women in hip hop radio special. The women in hip hop radio special airs every March exclusively on WXYC 89.3 FM Chapel Hill, NC. While female rappers may not be heard regularly on commercial FM radio, there are plenty of artists releasing material on the independent and underground scene.

2010 SOHIPOTOME Women In Hip Hop Honoree...

SOHIPOTOME Women In Hip Hop is pleased to announce the first Honoree for 2010. Terri Sherman started working in the music industry in 2004 for the Northeast Florida Record Pool as the Director of Public Relations. Currently Ms. Sherman is the CEO of Sherman Entertainment Enterprises. A subsidiary of her company is The Sessions, a premier event for music producers. The Sessions has garnered participation from Jon Wilkes (drummer from the band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus); Maestro (Grammy Award-winning producer); Keith Kennedy (VP of TJ’s DJ’s Record Pool) and many others. In addition to running her own company Ms. Sherman works for Lex Marketing and Promotions. Lex Marketing and Promotions is the top marketing and promotions company in Florida.

Speaking of her many roles, Ms. Sherman says, “I have enjoyed every position I have played in this business. Each stop along this path has prepared me for the next so I feel that everything I have done has been necessary to position me where I am now. I love what I do—that day that I no longer love it will be the day that I walk away.” Equipped with invaluable experience and relationships, Ms. Sherman looks to continue making strides in the music and entertainment industries.

2010 SOHIPOTOME Goals...

The team is continuosly planning for 2010's events. The goals for this year are to:
1. Recognize & Honor Women In & Of Hip Hop Whose Work Positively Moves The Culture Forward
Beginning today, each week the blog will feature one of 2010's Honorees who will be recognized during the SOHIPOTOME Honors & Concert on Saturday March 13. There are several amazing women who are a part of this year's honorees. Be sure to check back regularly to see who the 2010 SOHIPOTOME Honorees are.

2. Bridge The Gap To The Next Generation In Hip Hop
To achieve this goal, 2010 SOHIPOTOME is partnering with the Building A Better You Program {B.A.B.Y.}. B.A.B.Y. is a life skills development and fashion program for preteen and teen girls. B.A.B.Y. began in 2003 and teaches teens to become focused, driven and confident in a dynamic society.

On Saturday March 13 during the SOHIPOTOME Features B.A.B.Y. events, there will be several panels for teens on topics including Peer Pressure, Self Esteem, Relationships and Body Image. There will also be a Teen Rip.The.Runway. event and a Teen Talent Showcase. We are excited to have the B.A.B.Y. program be included as part of 2010's events.
