What Is SOHIPOTOME? x More FAQ's....

Q: What IS SOHIPOTOME?
SOHIPOTOME is a shortened version of “Soul and hip hop out of me.”

Q: OK, so how do you say SOHIPOTOME?
SO-HIP-O-TO-ME. We've heard several people saying "So Hip" for short.

Q: Why has the name of the events changed from Women Of Hip Hop to SOHIPOTOME?
A: The name of the event has been changed from Women Of Hip Hop to SOHIPOTOME to better reflect the premise of the events. For 2009's event two male rappers and one soul singer performed. These types of artists should not feel excluded in participating or attending based on the name of the event.

Q. How long have the events been taking place?
A. The Women In Hip Hop radio special has aired in March on WXYC 89.3 FM Chapel Hill, NC for the past 4 years. 2010 marks the 5th year anniversary of the women in hip hop radio special. This will be the second year for the concert and honors event. 2010 is the first year the B.A.B.Y. program will be a part of the events.

Q. Why are the events taking place in March?
A. March is Women’s History Month.

Q. What is the SOHIPOTOME honors and concert?

A. The SOHIPOTOME Honors & Concert presents performances by independent hip hop and r&b/soul artists. The event also honors women business owners whose work positively impacts the music industry and their communities.

Q. What is the SOHIPOTOME radio special?
A. The SOHIPOTOME radio special will showcase female hip hop artists and their music exclusively. There will be interviews with several artists in addition to a musical journey into the history of female rappers.
